Marching Band Summer Practice Schedule

All Marching Band members are expected to attend the August band practice according to the schedule below. Participation requires that all band and medical forms are on file in the band room before the first rehearsal in August.

For Practices under Hot Weather:

  • Wear:
    • Lightweight and light colored clothing
    • Decent athletic shoes - no flip flops or sandals, and no bare feet
    • Socks
    • Sunglasses
    • Hat
  • Get and use a water bottle
  • Use and reapply sunscreen every day
  • Eat healthy food

All you need to know about the Orkney Band Camp (arrival and departure schedule, what to bring to camp, daily schedule and specials, etc.) can be found in the Orkney Information and Forms packet.

Throughout the week, many photos are taken and posted nightly to the band's photo site so you can get a peek into your student's week at Orkney.

NOTE: Cell phone service is very spotty at Orkney, so don't expect much communication with your student during the week. Emergency contact numbers are provided below.

Directions to Orkney Springs

Take Route 66 West I-81 South. Exit I-81 South at Mt. Jackson (Exit 273). Turn left Route 11, then right on Route 11 through Mt. Jackson to Route 263 West. The road dead ends at Orkney Springs. You will see parents waving you to the parking area.

Orkney Family Day 2016

Friday, August 19, 2016

Following the students' return from Orkney by bus, the evening will begin at 5:00 pm with a parade and marching exhibition, followed by dinner in the cafeteria and a concert performance. Please come out and see how much the students have accomplished in just one week!

This year we will have the Annual Orkney Family Day at Oakton High School. The Schedule of Events are listed below.

Families may bring their own picnic dinner to enjoy in the cafeteria or they can pre-order a Subway meal. The meal will include a 6" sub, chips and a drink for $8.00. If you would like to order a Subway meal, please fill out the order form and submit it with a check payable to BBOHS by Sunday August 16. Please put SUBWAY on the memo line of the check. Payment and forms can be dropped off Sunday morning August 14 at Oakton HS before the students leave for Orkney.

Note: Student attire for the concert after dinner will be show shirt and khaki shorts.

We will have Spirit Wear sales, White House Ornament sales, and a Parent Volunteer Sign Up Sheet for the Oakton Classic which will be held on Saturday, September 26th, 2016.
